Hello!
As a resident of the city for over 30 years, I am intimately ingrained with Lakewood and its people and understand its unique needs and connections. I care deeply about what is happening within the city and would like to be part of the inner workings in order to continue to support Lakewood in being the strong, vibrant, safe, close-knit community it has come to be.
I am a proud graduate of Lakewood High School where I met my husband. After marrying, we put down roots in Lakewood where my two children now attend Lincoln Elementary School. My father served as an officer of the Lakewood City Police and I witnessed firsthand all of the good this city can provide.
After graduating from Cleveland State University with a Bachelor of Social Work, I worked tirelessly with Summit County Children Services where I engaged with people from all walks of life. I assessed the safety issues of children, assisted families in overcoming hardships, connected them to necessary resources, provided support, and advocated for their well-being to improve family and community relationships. My work with these families has impressed upon me a lasting perspective which I continue to carry with me.
We now own and manage rental properties in Lakewood and have previously co-founded a successful photography company. We currently own and oversee a specialty candy shop, Rocket Fizz, where we manage multiple teams in multiple locations. These duties have provided me with the knowledge and expertise in leadership, administration, creative problem solving, and effective communication that will translate well to the city council.
I am honored to advocate for gun sense legislation in our local, state, and federal governments through my work with Moms Demand Action. Engaging fellow residents of Ohio and local community partners in working towards ending gun violence and keeping citizens safe. I am active with The Lakewood Garden Club and the Lincoln Parent Teacher Association.
I would be thrilled to work for this exceptional city and its people. I am uniquely qualified with years of experience in advocacy, operations, and project management. Most importantly, I care very deeply about this community and have the flexibility to direct considerable energy towards this position. I am confident I can serve the people of Lakewood with empathy, knowledge, and competence.
I see the best of us in our girls and love how fierce they can be. I can’t stop singing Wicked, would eat pie all day long if I could, I’m obsessed with the show Shrinking, and want to be in the room where it happens. I’m happily married, but if you ever meet Andrew Garfield give him my number.
Nice to meet you, too!

The Lakewood City Council is currently in the process of appointing a new councilperson to the vacant seat.

Angela Clunk for
your city council!
Angela’s Priorities
Council Member At-Large:
Engage with all Lakewood residents about their thoughts and concerns with open communication.
Assist residents in connecting with City Hall and advocate on their behalf.
Ensure inclusion of diversity and different perspectives with all decisions being made.
Increase outgoing communication to residents in a more accessible and easily digestible way.
Create a marketing campaign to showcase the city and encourage population growth.
Utilities:
Hold all third parties that operate within the city to higher standards with quality of work and beautification.
Review best practices for utility company oversight - review maintenance and repair schedules for electricity and confirm they are being followed correctly - to avoid unnecessary outages.
When repairs are done, require highest level of replacement (i.e. the gas company replacing sidewalks with lower level cement, or leaving sidewalks unrepaired for extended periods of time after pipe work).
Affordability:
Promote first-time home buying incentives.
Support ADUs and other ways of maintaining residency.
Research ageing in place options the city can assist with.
Review corporate ownership of housing stock and homes relegated to airbnb, and clarify the effect on local prices.
Enact licenses for short term rental use to curb impact.
Ensure that owners/companies participate in best practices in order to keep private residences filled and business storefronts active (fees for long vacancies).
Safety:
Work with residents and advocacy groups to identify areas of danger and concern.
Upgrade and reconfigure crosswalks for the best safety of walkers and bikers.
Prioritize pedestrian safety, walkability, and biker safety over car traffic flow - this does not mean make traffic flow worse - it means making decisions with all stakeholders in mind.
Collaborate with Moms Demand Action to provide safe firearm storage and locks.
Parks:
Review the wonderful asset of Lakewood Park and expand it’s features for greater community use (i.e. updated bandstand, lakefront pier expansion, better use of utility storage space).
Maintain and add fun, functional features to parks and playgrounds, including sensory gardens.
Continue to invest planting more tress to expand canopy.
Help connect residents to free, discounted, and educational opportunities that improve greenspaces city-wide.
Expand public bathroom availability and hours.
Research feasibility of city run cafe / concessions (i.e. Metro Park options).
Fiscal Management:
Review current audit protocols and develop best practices with community input.
Ensure that city departments are efficiently using their budgets.
Push for hard fail safes on any city contract for development so a developer can’t back out without penalty (especially important with overall current macroeconomic cycle).
Explore additional grant opportunities.
Evaluate and apply for any federal or state funding for lakefront erosion control.
Assess any environmental impacts that might cause a big future expense (i.e. EPA regulations or insurance coverage dropping).
Development:
Ensure that city projects are completed in a timely manner while insisting on the highest level quality work.
Work jointly with companies to complete projects within the city that add value to Lakewood.
Work towards options that benefit current residents while attracting new residents.
Make sure the Buick site, and similar vacant areas have development options moving forward.
Walkability:
Advocate on behalf of residents to the school board and administration to keep schools walkable.
Consider walkability at a higher value when approving development and budgets.
Create a sidewalk expansion program to add sidewalks to the few areas that lack them.
Historical Preservation:
Secure historical landmark status for neighborhoods that are eligible.
Promote the preservation of Lakewood’s beautiful old housing stock over deconstruction projects.
Incentivize maintenance and protection over tear downs or complete gutting.
